This textbook, Design of Building Steel Structures, is the follow-up part of the textbook Basic Principles of Steel Structures Design. This textbook mainly introduces several kinds of steel structures of building construction, with a total of six Chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the design of the platform steel structures, which is a relatively simple and commonly used form of steel structures. Chapter 2 introduces the design of the light-weight steel portal frames(gabled frame), a kind of steel structure widely used in light industry workshops, warehouses, large supermarkets, exhibition halls and other buildings. The light-weight steel portal frame is also a structural form with high content of new technology (e. g. , theory of thin-walled components), very suitable for developing countries due to its low steel consumption, quick construction, and low cost. Since developing countries are the place when China helped with infrastructure construction, teachers should take this Chapter as the focus of international students and Chinese-foreign cooperative bilingual students who will work in overseas infrastructure projects in the future. Chapter 3 introduces the design method for medium and heavy industrial plants, which are the traditional application field of steel structures. Although it is not much used in developing countries, the design method of angle steel roof truss and crane beam are universal. Angle steel roof frame, which can be used in all kinds of buildings, and has the advantage of low cost, is suitable for developing countries. Crane beam can also be used in light industrial plants, such as the light-weight steel portal frame. Chapter 4 will discuss the large-span roof steel structures, which is also widely used in civil engineering. However, this book only briefly introduces the characteristics and calculation key-points of the plate-like space trusses and reticulated shells due to the limited class credits. Moreover, the design method of welded hollow spherical joints and bolted sphere joints, commonly used in these two structures, is also illustrated in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 introduces the steel structure of high-rise buildings. This kind of structure is mainly used in some landmark building structures in developing countries. It mainly introduces the design, structure types, composite floor slabs, steel-concrete composite beams and supports of high-rise building steel structures. In Chapter 6, the unstiffened tubular joints which have been widely used in tubular trusses and single-layer reticulated shell structures in recent years are introduced briefly.
